DeVry University

Established in 1987, DeVry University is now a huge corporation that has merged with other reputable institutions in the United States. One of them is Keller Graduate School of Management that takes up the biggest division of the company. It was in June 1991 that this academic foundation completed its initial offering to the public. Six years after, Becker Professional Review was purchased. In 2003, Ross University followed in acquisition while Deaconess College of Nursing came next in 2005. Today, this academic foundation also offers distance education to cater to individuals willing to juggle studies and work at the same time.

The historical roots of DeVry University can be traced back in 1931. It was the year when Dr. Herman DeVry established the DeForest Training School located in Chicago in order to prepare individuals for technical responsibilities in electronics which involved television, motion pictures and radio. By 1953, the corporation was known as DeVry Technical Institute then by 1968 was later changed to DeVry Institute of Technology. Over time, the system employed by the institution paved way for growth of scholastic offerings. In 1957, this academic foundation attained a status where it can now grant Associate degrees in electronics engineering technology.

The said program from DeVry University is now known as electronics and computer technology. After twelve years, the corporation was permitted to grant Bachelor degrees in the same principle. By 1966, the institution was purchased by Bell and Howell Education Group where it continually developed. Under the administration of the new proprietors, the company was able to establish two campuses located in Chicago and Toronto. Later on, this academic foundation expanded to eleven towns based in eight states around the United States as well as in two Canadian provinces.

Not only did the structures of DeVry University developed in number but also its scholastic offerings. As it was mentioned, the company also ventured to distance education so there are now DeVry online degrees available for individuals willing to juggle studies and work at the same time. There are now DeVry online classes for a Bachelor’s degree in computer science for business. In the past, the program was known as computer information system which was launched in 1979. By the 1980’s, there was a demand to produce individuals with skills both in technology and business so DeVry online college responded.

DeVry University finally had a Bachelor’s degree in programs like business administration, accounting and telecommunications management. The latter is now currently known as network and communications management as it was changed in 2003. In 1987, the corporation merged with Keller Graduate School of Management after the Master’s department, established by two previous executives of the institution, finished an influential buyout of the company from Bell and Howard. The mentioned institution was established in 1973 by Ronald Taylor and Dennis Keller. They are the ones responsible for launching Master’s of Business Administration.

After Keller Graduate School of Management was purchased, DeVry University continued to develop both geographically and programmatically. In the 1990’s, the corporation launched the technical management program which has been established for individuals who have obtained an Associate degree but want to pursue a Bachelor’s degree. The same situation also happened with curriculums in computer engineering and information technology. In the Master’s department, six courses were added especially in the fields concentrating in telecommunications, human resources and management.

By 1996, DeVry University purchased Becker CPA Review which is now known as Becker Professional Review. It assists individuals who are certified public accountants and chartered financial analysts to prepare them for examinations where they can obtain certifications by offering a set of trainings. Not for long, Ross University and Deaconess College of Nursing were acquired.
